Hush Puppies
Ingredients
What you need:
1.5 Cup Corn Meal
1/4 Cup Flour
1/4 TSP Baking Powder
1/4 TSP Baking Soda
1/2 Cup Salt
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1 egg
Buttermilk
Vegetable Oil
Frozen or Canned Corn (Optional)
Instructions:
Add the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
In a small bowl, add buttermilk and egg. Whisk lightly.
Add the buttermilk and egg to the dry ingredients.
Mix evenly with a large spoon or rubber spatula.
The consistency should be thick and a little lumpy.
(optional) Add fresh corn for added texture
In a dutch oven or deep fryer, add vegetable oil. Heat oil to 375°.
Use a spoon to drop the hushpuppy batter into the oil. Try not to overcrowd.
Fry for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. You may need to flip.
