Hush Puppies

Ingredients

What you need:

Hush Puppies

  • 1.5 Cup Corn Meal

  • 1/4 Cup Flour

  • 1/4 TSP Baking Powder

  • 1/4 TSP Baking Soda

  • 1/2 Cup Salt

  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar

  • 1 egg

  • Buttermilk

  • Vegetable Oil

  • Frozen or Canned Corn (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Add the dry ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. In a small bowl, add buttermilk and egg. Whisk lightly.

  3. Add the buttermilk and egg to the dry ingredients.

  4. Mix evenly with a large spoon or rubber spatula.

  5. The consistency should be thick and a little lumpy.

  6. (optional) Add fresh corn for added texture

  7. In a dutch oven or deep fryer, add vegetable oil. Heat oil to 375°.

  8. Use a spoon to drop the hushpuppy batter into the oil. Try not to overcrowd.

  9. Fry for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. You may need to flip.
